The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery is a two-year program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a successful nurse or midwife. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of nursing and midwifery, as well as the ability to apply them in a variety of settings. The program is divided into two parts: the first year focuses on the theoretical aspects of nursing and midwifery, while the second year focuses on the practical aspects.

The program is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge necessary to provide quality care to patients in a variety of settings. The curriculum includes topics such as anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, nutrition, medical-surgical nursing, obstetrics and gynecology, community health nursing, and professional ethics. Students will also learn about the legal and ethical aspects of nursing and midwifery, as well as the principles of communication and patient care.

The program also provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through clinical placements. These placements allow students to gain practical experience in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, clinics, and community health centers. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the Nursing and Midwifery Council of India (NMCI) examination and become a registered nurse or midwife.
